Ciao bella! Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi (left) and Sammi 'Sweetheart' Giancola arrived at the new home in Florence, Italy, today to film season four of Jersey Shore

The Jersey Shore girls checked into their new home in Italy today where they will film the fourth season of the hit show.

Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, 23, Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley, 25, Deena Nicole Cortese, 24, and Sammi 'Sweetheart' Giancola, 24, pulled up to the Florence residence where their male cast mates were already settling in.

Snooki was carrying her favourite stuffed animal, which she calls Crocodily, adding to the massive amount of luggage all the girls brought along.

They all wore sensible flats for their long journey, apart from petite Snooki who wore tall wedges.

The girls, who had jetted out from Newark Airport in New York together yesterday, struggled to lug their luggage into the villa but their male co-stars, who often boast about their gym work outs, didn't seem to be offering any assistance.

Snooki had previously had vowed to bring a big supply of bronzer with her to keep her tan in check while Deena, who is on a weight loss kick, packed Special K bars to snack on during her time away.

The 'guidos' had arrived earlier in the day to a throng of screaming fans.

Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino, 29, Vinny, real name Vincenzo Guadagnino,21, Pauly D, real name Paul DelVecchio, 28, and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, 23, were greeted by hundreds of excited females.

Not to be outdone by their female cast mates, the four TV stars took along a mammoth amount of luggage with them for the duration of their stay.

They unloaded all of their bags themselves and ventured into their new home.

Always wanting to be centre of attention, The Situation wore an all white outfit and, of course, was lapping up the limelight.

The other boys wore simple jeans and T-shirts and looked bewildered by the crowd that had gathered for them.

It has emerged that the reality TV stars will be working in the O' Vesuvio Pizzeria during their time in the city.

The restaurant is said to be a favourite among the locals for its stone oven pizza.

Of course, the trip to Italy has been plagued by drama and delays with the mayor of Florence recently banning them from the city's most historic landmarks.

According to an Italian news website the city's world famous Uffizi gallery, sculpture-filled Boboli Gardens and stately Palazzo Vecchio town hall are all out of bounds for filming.

Mayor Renzi is insisting that the cast will not be permitted to be filmed drinking in public or in clubs or bars that serve alcohol.

The reality TV stars were initially due arrive in the cultural hive of Florence on May 9 and have voiced a yearning to get back to their Italian roots.

The eight protagonists of the hit show have been accused of helping reinforce American stereotypes about Italians as brash loudmouths who use too much hair gel.

But Beppe Severgnini, a columnist for local publication Corriere della Sera, said viewers could be surprised when the show comes into contact with actual Italian culture.

'The eight most famous yobs in America are arriving in the most refined city in Italy and perhaps in the world,' said the well-known journalist and author, who has written books about perceptions of Italians overseas.

He drew a comparison between 15th century Florentine painter Sandro Botticelli's Venus and Snooki saying: 'They both have Italian blood but they are not very similar.'

Comparing Florence to previous locations - New Jersey and Florida - he said the city was 'more ancient, famous and delicate,' adding: 'If the 'Jersey Shore' guys do what has made them famous there will be trouble.'
