'She hurt my feelings:' Lea Michele defends herself over nasty comments made by Modern Family's Sarah Hyland

Not happy: Lea Michele has voiced her upset about comments Sarah Hyland made about her Emmy dress

Two weeks after she graced the carpet at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards, Glee actress Lea Michele has been made to defend her dress choice for the event.

The 25-year-old actress, who wore a striking low backed bright red creation by Marchesa, has spoken out over comments made by Sarah Hyland, star of Modern Family.

Sarah, who wore Christian Siriano to the event, made the cutting comments critsising Lea's red carpet posing on last week's Fashion Police on E! saying: 'It’s like a slow-motion picture kind of thing.'

'It’s just like, she puts her hands on her hips like this and like sticks out her collarbones — I don’t know if you can see — she sticks out her collarbones to make her look skinnier and she goes sticks out her lips,' she said on the show as she mimicked Lea's signature pose.

Negative reaction: Sarah said she 'hated' the red backless number which Lea wore on the red carpet

'I gotta be honest. It hurt my feelings a little bit,' Michele told Us Weekly on Friday at Variety's 3rd Annual Power of Women event.

'I really think the message of today is that women should motivate and empower women, and so that’s why I'm honored to be a part of today,' she added.

Sarah, 20, who plays Haley Dunphy on the hit comedy series Modern Family, then defended her statement on Saturday to her Twitter followers.

'I did not intend for my comments to be taken in a malicious way,' she said.

'But I did hate [her] dress. Called her ass great. Did you all hear that one?'
'Congrats Lea. You know how to work the red carpet. I can't take it as seriously as you,' Sarah added.

'I can't take myself that seriously. I don't like the red carpet. I feel silly. So props to her for knowing what she's doing and enjoying it.'

While it is unclear who won in this war of words, or even in the fashion stakes, it is clearly apparent who won on Emmy night, with Modern Family taking home five trophies to Glee's zero.
