'Too soon': Comedienne Amy Schumer slammed for her joke about deceased Jackass star Ryan Dunn during Sheen Roast

Too far? Comedienne Amy Schumer has come under fire for her joke about deceased Jackass star Ryan Dunn during Charlie Sheen's Comedy Roast


Comedy Central Roasts are traditionally a no holds barred event - and Charlie Sheen's this week was always going to be crude one.

But many are criticising one comedian's joke about late Jackass star Ryan Dunn as 'too soon.'

Former Last Comic Standing contestant Amy Schumer has come under fire for her remarks during the roast aired on Monday night.

Upset: The joke was directed at Dunn's friend and co-star Steve-O, who did not look pleased


The 30-year-old spent most of her slot making fun of her fellow roasters including Mike Tyson, William Shatner and Kate Walsh.

When she came to Dunn's Jackass co-star and close friend Steve-O, she said: 'I'm sorry for the loss of your friend Ryan Dunn.

'I know you were thinking, "It could have been me," and I know we were all thinking "Why wasn't it?"'

The cameras panned to Steve-O, real name Stephen Gilchrist Glover, who looked taken aback, while several audience members booed.

Dunn, 34, died in a car crash in June in West Chester, Pennsylvania with his passenger Zachary Hartwell. The prankster was later confirmed to have had a blood alcohol level of 0.196 percent, more than twice the Pennsylvania limit of 0.08.

Miss Schumer immediately received a wave of criticism on social networking sites, but the man of the hour, Charlie Sheen, certainly wasn't one of her detractors.

He tweeted her yesterday, writing: 'Shocking!! @amyschumer... You're beautiful... funny... and incredibly mean!! And I love you!!'

Steve-O, 37, has not remarked on the incident on his own Twitter page since.

While many American viewers reacted with outrage at the joke at prankster Dunn's expense, there was far less reaction to roaster Seth McFarlane's remarks about even more recently deceased Amy Winehouse.

The Family Guy creator said: 'We all know there’s a good chance Charlie will be dead soon so I wrote an obituary.

'Charlie Sheen, who became a tabloid fixture due to his problems with drugs and alcohol, was found dead in his apartment.

'Actually, you know what, I kind of actually just copied Amy Winehouse’s obituary.

'I only had to change three things, though: the sex of the deceased, the location of the body and the part that says, ‘a talent that will be missed.'

Miss Schumer retweeted one fan who observed: '@SethMacFarlane w/ a Winehouse joke and all good.. @amyschumer does a Dunn joke and gets ridic heat? relax ya f****** a******s its a ROAST!

The Roast of Charlie Sheen is airing this week on Comedy Central.
