Looking dotty: American actress Emma Stone shows off her pins in a polka-dot dress at the London premiere of The Help

In her latest film The Help, Emma Stone's character Skeeter is known for her frizzy hair and lack of fashion knowledge.

But the actress certainly didn't need any help when it came to getting ready for the movie's London premiere last night.

The redheaded actress, 22, showed off her pins in a sexy slit polka-dot dress as she joined her co-stars Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis at a pre-screening party at the Washington Hotel before the premiere at the Curzon Mayfair.

The film - adapted from Kathryn Stockett's 2009 novel of the same name - stars Stone as a young university graduate struggling to establish herself as a writer in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, in the 1960s.

Devastated by the mysterious disappearance of her African American maid Constance, Skeeter soon finds herself growing increasingly uncomfortable by her white friends' treatment of their 'help'.

She forms a friendship with her friends' maids Aibileen (Davis) and Minny (Spencer) which will change their lives forever.

It's a bit windy: Stone struggled to keep her composure as a gust of wind disturbs her dress

Speaking at last night's premiere at the Curzon Mayfair, Stone admitted she was attracted to the role of Skeeter because it was so much meatier than other roles in Hollywood for actresses of her age.

She said: 'I like any role that feels human and alive and not just the girl or the comedic relief or something boxed in and stereotyped.

'It was really great that I not just wanted to be part of the movie, but got to be a part of it.'

Girl power: Davis (left) wore a sleek purple gown with plunging neckline, while Spencer went for a pretty blue and purple floral number

Stone admitted Skeeter's famously uncontrollable curls - which causes her mother much ire - was just a wig.

She explained: 'I put it on in the morning and I took it off at the end of the night.

'My hair is stick, stick straight and I look like a drowned rat in humidity, so I was actually really appreciative of those curls.'
