Hugh Jackman has revealed that his wife gets upset if he is in better shape than her.

The 42-year-old often buffs up for movie roles but said that his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, 55, hates it when he outshines her.

Just this week the X-Men star put his incredible form on show as he took to the surf at Bondi Beach in his native Australia.

'Overall, Deb would say to me my job is to be out of shape so that she can look as good as possible,' he tells Australia's News.com.au.

'So she's always upset with me if I'm in really good shape.'

'She's like, 'I think you're forgetting the contract of marriage - ultimately everything is about me looking better, so enough with the training'.'

And he said that she isn't a huge fan of his muscles anyway.

'Let me give you a little insight into my wife. I met her on a prison drama where I had tats all over my body and a mullet, and that turned her on,' he explained.

'She likes the bad boys.'

The couple have been married for 15 years and have two children together - Oscar, 11, and Ava, 6.

The actor is currently promoting his new film Real Steal, an action sci-fi about robots who have replaced humans in boxing.

He also recently recently finished filming Butter, a tale about a young orphan who discovers her uncanny talent for butter sculpture in an Iowa town.

The comedy also stars Jennifer Garner and Alicia Silverstone.

The multi-talented performer, who won a Tony Award in 2004 for his role in Broadway show The Boy From Oz, is also hoping to land a role in Glee.

'That would be fun,' he said.

'I don't think of them as adopted... they are our children': Hugh Jackman opens up about the 'painful' road to parenthood

By Paul Thompson

Opening up: Hugh Jackman, pictured here in Germany earlier this month, has spoken about adopting his two children

Actor Hugh Jackman has opened up about his 'painful' path to becoming a dad.

The 42-year-old star is married to wife Deborra-Lee Furness and they have two adopted children - Oscar, 11, and Ava, six.

He spoke to Australia's Herald Sun about the moment they discovered they weren't able to have children naturally.

He said: 'It was painful. It's not easy. You put a lot of time and effort into it, so it's emotional.

'I think any parent can relate - trying to have children is wonderful and when you feel as though that's not going to happen, there's a certain anxiety that goes with it.'

He added: 'We thought we'd have a kid or two biologically and then adopt. But when we decided we'd had enough of IVF, we went ahead with adoption.'

However the couple soon moved on with their plans to become parents.

Jackman said: 'From the moment we started the adoption process, all the anxiety went away. I don't think of them as adopted - they're our children.

'Deb and I are believers in I suppose you could call it destiny. We feel things happened the way they are meant to. Obviously, biologically wasn't the way we were meant to have children.

'Now, as we go through life together, sure there are challenges, but everyone's in the right place with the right people. It sounds airy-fairy, but it's something we feel very deeply.'
